Last weekend we checked out a video from our public library on preparing for labor and delivery. It was the only video they had to offer on the subject, so beggars can’t be choosers, right? Wrong! Oh so very wrong. We were surprised to receive a video that not only predates the DVD, but also the CD as well. We’re talking early 80’s here. It's a situation where I MIGHT have been slightly impressed if a junior high media club put it together; but alas, it was created by actual adults. It turned out to be an unintentional comedy rather than an instructional video. That's a “win” in my book.
Most of the men supported these manly 'staches:
Most of the women had a variation of this hair style:
Okay, maybe not THAT bad, but they still looked ridiculous.
I thought I would capture some of the brilliance of this video in a few clips I recorded. Here is an amazing clip on how to dress for the delivery room.
You can’t make this stuff up! It’s comedy gold.
Here is a scene where some ugly woman talks about stuff. Sorry, I really was not paying attention. I was too engrossed with the stirring synthesized piano tune.
I wanted to post the scene after this one where there was a lovely close up of the woman’s “nether regions” giving birth, but my wife would not let me. She’s no fun I tell ya. On a side note, this was the moment where it turned from a comedy to a horror flick.
Anyway, I really learned two things from this disaster: 1. The 80’s was a dark time... a time in which fashion and facial hair committed suicide. And 2. Nope, I only learned one thing. Shoot.
